How Do You Write a Book?

Answer: “A Little At A Time”…
According To Renowned Author David A. Adler
(Sandy Springs, GA) Internationally published author David A. Adler, renowned for his many acclaimed books including, The Cam Jansen Series and A Little At A Time, recently came to visit young budding writers and future authors at The Epstein School, thanks to the sponsorship of Epstein’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

With the animated style and flair of an accomplished orator, Mr. Adler explained the process of writing and publishing a story. “Writing starts with inspiration, which comes from the people we meet, interesting places we go, and unusual things we do. The most important part of any story is the very first sentence, of the very first page. Does it grab your attention and make you want to read more? ” said Mr. Adler, as he spoke passionately in three consecutive sessions to eager Epstein Kindergarten through 5th grade elementary students.
In one session, he pulled Epstein Kindergartener Brooke Goldberg up to the front from the audience saying, “I think I have an inspiration for my next book!” He shook the young girl's hand and held it up to show that Brooke had some writing on her hand.
“The story of the girl who writes messages on her hand,” continued Adler. She smiled, blushed, and the audience laughed. Adler concluded, “You see, I find inspiration for stories everywhere I go.”

The author explained the creation process of a book sequentially from writing and re-writing, to editing, illustration and publishing. “We are so excited that an author of David’s experience and stature was brought to The Epstein School. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to get an insiders look into the writing process and the world of publishing," stated Margret Troxler, Epstein's Library Media Specialist.
Inspired Epstein students listened intently as Mr. Adler went on to say, “Every Epstein student has a story to write that is unique to them. No one else can write that special story.” So the question to ponder is, “Who will the next David Adler be?”
